This week Stephen hosted Christy White the program coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of York County to discuss the needs of this newly formed chapter of the organization. Big Brothers Big Sisters specializes in one on one mentoring program with at risk youth in the area. At this time they are in need of mentor volunteers who are 18+ with a clean background. The youth are very excited about this program and it’s important that the volunteers show up as a way to encourage these students.
There are two programs:
- Partnership with the Boys & Girls Club who help children who are kindergarten through fifth grade. These volunteers spend one hour per week with the student and help with homework, art activities, etc. Basically, whatever the child needs.
- Community Program is a bit different as you are a Big who goes to the Little’s home and picks them up and takes them out twice a month. These kids are 7-14 year olds.
If you’re interested in volunteering, go to bbbscentralcarolinas.org to submit an application.
