As the summer months draw upon us, we wanted to highlight the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas specifically because summer months are the most difficult for blood donations. Summer events, activities and vacations keep us all busy – so much so that donor chairs often go empty during this time of year. All of us know someone – or someone who knows someone – whose life has been impacted by the need for blood. Below are some facts and figures from the CBCC’s website that highlight the impact and need for donating blood.
- 1 in 7 people entering the hospital need blood
- 1 pint can save up to 3 lives
- Every 2 seconds, someone in the US needs blood
- Blood CANNOT be artificially created
- Only 10% of the general population eligible to donate blood does so
Donating is easy to set up and only takes up about an hour of your day to actually donate. In order to sign up just Go Online to make your appointment, or call 704-972-4700.
Also if you donate blood at a Community Blood Center of the Carolinas donation center between May 27 and May 31 you will receive a free movie ticket voucher as a thank you!
So there you go – what could be better? Donate blood, give back to your local community, save lives in the process and then kick back with your favorite movie. Better yet, donate with a spouse, friend or family member and make a night out of it!
