Fort Mill, SC Real Estate
The town of Fort Mill was established in 1873 and received it name from it’s location between two areas. The first built by the British to protect the Catawba Indians and the second area of Webb’s Mill. Initially, Fort Mill was on 4.6 square miles and in 2008 the town held a public forum about the proposed annexation that doubled the town’s size. Fort Mill is also known as Fort Mill Township in the northernmost past of York County. The city has been booming since the early 2,000’s and has over 15,000 people who live in the town but overall close to 40,000 living within the entire township. It is currently one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
If you love the outdoors, Fort Mill has a 2,300-acre natural preserve called Anne Springs Close Greenway that offers lakes, hiking, cycling and horseback riding trails. This was the vision of the Close family who owned over 7,000 acres in Fort Mill and wanted to preserve the land as it’s a buffer from Charlotte’s growing metropolis. The Close family developed Clear Springs Development in 1997 with the goal to bring more businesses to York County and in 1998 began its long-term plan of developing Fort Mill with the Baxter Village neighborhood.
