Lancaster, SC Real Estate

Known as the ‘Red Rose City,’ Lancaster SC was established in the 1700’s and had two wars on its soil and was the birth place of several famous figures such as President Andrew Jackson. Lancaster as a city is home to almost 10,000 residents but the actual population is well over 20,000 which cannot be recorded due to South Carolina’s strict annexation laws.

Lancaster and Lancaster County were named for Lancaster County, Pennsylvania by it’s early settlers. Geologically, the entire county of Lancaster lies over a great slab of granite and from 1827-1942 was a great producer of gold. At one time the Haile Gold Mine had over $7 million dollars’ worth of gold mined out of it, making this at one point the largest gold mine east of the Mississippi.

Today, Lancaster is growing by leaps and bounds as families are moving to this small town to escape the growing metropolis of Queen City.  It is home to USC- Lancaster, Edgewater Golf Club, Red Rose Festival and Lancaster Speedway just to name a few.

There are 11 elementary schools, 5 middle schools and 4 high schools.
