The town of Fort Mill was established in 1873 and received it name from it’s location between two areas. The first built by the British to protect the Catawba Indians and the second area of Webb’s Mill. Initially, Fort Mill was on 4.6 square miles and in 2008 the town held a public forum about the proposed annexation that doubled the town’s size.
