Rock Hill, SC

Rock Hill Rocks! It is the largest city in York County as well as the 5th largest city in the state and a quick drive up I-77 will take you directly into Charlotte, NC. Just a little history about Rock Hill, in 1852, Charlotte/Columbia/Augusta Railroad line was being built and during construction they passed through current day Rock Hill and stumbled on a small flinty hill and thus decided to name the area Rock Hill because of this.

Rock Hill gives its residents an array of options for scenery from beautiful riverfront views of the Catawba River to the historic downtown area with homes built in the 1840’s. Rock Hill is also home to the Catawba Indian Nation and the reserve is currently the only one within South Carolina.

Rock Hill has 27 total schools within its limits and that includes 17 elementary schools, 5 middle schools and 3 high schools. There are also 2 private schools for parents to choose from if they wish. Rock Hill has been called ‘Football City USA,’ by its locals due to the fact that the area’s high schools have produced so many NFL players for the size of the town. The area is also home to several colleges including Winthrop University, Clinton Junior College and York Technical college.

Today, Rock Hill experiencing steady growth and its city limits expand beyond its original limits with a population pushing 75,000. Since the early 2000’s Rock Hill has been honing in on it’s southern hospitality by hosting various festivals, building sports complexes and enhancing their public parks. The Downtown area is undergoing a large renovation to be rebranded as ‘Old Town’ to include more restaurants, Fountain Park and multi-family living spaces.  The Bleachery, a water treatment center from the 1930’s, is in the process of being re-finished and being turned into restaurants and offices.
